Travel Agent for Pushkar

Neither because of its picturesque valley nor for its wonderful mountainous regions, Pushkar is famous for its uncommon scenic spots and its colourful festivals. Regarded as a holy pilgrimage of Hindus, Pushkar has 400 temples of which the most important is dedicated to Lord Brahma - the creator of the universe. Besides, Pushkar is also known for its famous cattle fair and the holy lake.

Some of the important tourist sites in Pushkar are:

Pushkar is famous not only for its colorful annual cattle fair, but for the picturesque holy lake that holds great significance in Hindu mythology. Known as Pushkar Lake, it is surrounded by 500 temples 52 palaces and 52 ghats (religious bathing house). The picturesque lake is set in a valley about 11 km northwest of Ajmer and is surrounded by hills and sand dunes.

Pushkar houses the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in India. It is visited by hordes of pilgrims round the year. The temple is situated on the western side of the main town area. Gokul Chand Pareek who was the minister of Daulat Ram Scindia in the year 1809 gave the present form of the temple to it. The temple is a must visit, as it would definitely give you the feeling of holiness and tranquillity. The floor and stairs of the temple are made out of white marble giving it a soothing look. In the antralaya (sanctum sanctorum) part of the temple, there lies the four-armed life size statue of Lord Brahma - the creator of the whole existence. One of the many interesting sites of the temple is the large number of silver coins studded on the walls of the temple.

Situated on the Ratnagiri Hill, west of Pushkar town, is the famous Savitri Temple. The temple houses a beautiful statue of goddess Savitri, wife of lord Brahma. According to legend, Savitri cursed her husband Brahma that he would never be worshipped anywhere except in Pushkar and that too only once a year because, he (Brahma) had enraged her by performing a yagna alongside Gayatri, a young milkmaid. She then left for the Ratnagiri Hill and immolated herself. And on the very site this temple dedicated to goddess Savitri was built.

There is also the temple of Gayatri, whom lord Brahma married to perform the yagna on time. This temple on the top of a hill is also another important pilgrim site, to visit while you explore Pushkar.

Besides these, there are places like the Gau Ghat, Nag Hill or Yagna Hill, Markendeya Rishi Ashram, Pap Mochini Temple, Agastya Muni Ashram, Gaya Kund, and many more other temples that are worth a visit.

The Pushkar mela or the Pushkar cattle fair is one of the important events of the entire state of Rajasthan, when a good number of tourists visit this place. During the days of the fair, the otherwise tranquil lake is engulfed by religious fervor.
