Travel Agent for Cuttack

Situated just 25 km away from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack is the largest city of Orissa. It stands atop the Mahanadi delta and extends from the Mahanadi River on the north to river Kathjori in the south. Due to its strategic location many rulers and kingdoms, in the past, invaded this place and made Cuttack the capital of their respective kingdoms. The historical and religious importance of the place could be seen in the many historical and architectural marvels that still say the story of their contemporary times. Due to its enormous historical, religious and geographical significance Cuttack, in recent times has developed as an important tourist destination of eastern India. It also used to be the former capital of Orissa and is still an important business centre of the state.

Some of the important tourist sites in Cuttack are:

The impressive granite embankment on the bank of the river is an engineering marvel. The then Keshari ruler built the embankment with its stone revetment and wonderful architecture in the 11th century AD. The embankment a remarkable example of ancient technological skill of Orissa, was built to protect the town from both the military attacks and flooding by the Kathjori River during monsoons. The embankment is still in use, which says about the marvellous building skills that used to exist 900 years ago.

The strategic location of Barabati fort, otherwise known as the Varanasi Kataka, within the present Cuttack town provided an excellent site as the great seat of authority for the medieval ruling dynasties of Orissa. The medieval Barabati Fort, with its moat and gate and the earthen mound of the nine-storied palace, is situated on the bank of the river Mahanadi.

Quadam-i-Rasool is a sacred shrine for both, Hindus as well as Muslims. The main area of Quadam-i-Rasool is enclosed on all sides by high stonewalls and is the main burial ground of the Muslims at Cuttack. Inside the shrine are three mosques with beautiful domes and a Naubat Khana (music gallery). It is an object of veneration for Hindus and Muslims alike.

The Lalbag palace, built in the year 1633, is another important site you can visit to know more about the architectural excellence and aesthetic sense of the rulers of this region.

The Diwan Bazaar mosque, built in the 1666 AD, is another monument that adds to the beauty and grandeur of Cuttack. The various component parts of this mosque appear to have been built during different periods.

The newly built Barabati cricket stadium is the latest centre of attraction in the city today. Situated near the Barabati Fort, this stadium has been the venue of many international cricket matches.

Besides these, Cuttack also has some other monuments of historical and religious monuments like the Mastaram Math, Tulasipur Math, Opal Math, Bangalisahi Math, and Jain Shrines etc., which are worth a visit.
